Reason Commenters Shift Right

One of the main blogs that I follow and comment on is Reason Magazine's Hit & Run. Overall, Reason has seemed to me represent best the "cosmopolitan" or even "soft left" version of libertarianism and is more in view with my general sense of things than most. And during the Bush years, it attracted an audience that seemed, on balance, to be in the same camp.

With the advent of the Obama Administration, there has bee a decided shift right-ward in terms of the people posting comments and a general decline in the quality of the dialogue. It is sometimes shocking really and underscores how self-described anti-government types end up being anti-current government rather than anti-all government. (The photo shows the level of intelligence we're talking about here)

Me, I am pretty much against all government and while I prefer Obama to Bush events have proven that the actual policy differences are very small indeed.

The Gauntlet

Has been thrown down. Who will pick it up?

I have been toying with getting serious about blogging again after something of a lull. I had a blog that was updated daily and ran for some time but events conspired and life got too complicated. After some abortive attempts to start again, I think things are normalizing sufficiently for another go at it.

As to my nom de plume: An article in the local paper detailing the advent of blogs in my area -- complete with descriptions of the content of the various offerings -- had to say of mine only "The writings of an iconoclastic blogger" ... Or something like that. Certainly the only descriptive word was Iconoclast.
